SUNOL, Alameda County — The East Bay Regional Park District’s winter schedule begins November 1, 2026 at Sunol Wilderness Regional Preserve, while a separate trail closure remains in effect.
The district’s official preserve page lists winter gate hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from November 1 to March 7. The Shady Glen Trail is marked closed in an advisory updated October 31. Do not treat a park’s open entrance gate as permission to enter a closed trail.
Planning a visit
The preserve is at 1895 Geary Road, Sunol. Parking is listed as $5 on weekends and holidays, with separate charges for buses and trailered vehicles. The visitor center generally opens Friday 9 a.m.–1 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 8:30 a.m.–4 p.m.
There is no drinking water in the park, according to the district. Hikers should bring supplies, plan their return before gates close and check the latest trail and fire-safety notices.
Fire restrictions
The district lists no open fires or barbecues at the preserve, with limited allowances for gas-fueled stoves in identified areas. Follow current signs and staff instructions rather than relying on previous-season rules.
